Colorado Elopement Photography + Adventure Wedding Photography

For Couples Who Believe Adventures And Experiences Will Always Be Better Than Outdated Traditions

Your story isn’t ordinary. Your elopement photos shouldn’t be, either.
We totally get it. Finding the right photographer for your small adventure wedding or Colorado elopement can be a pretty difficult process. Knowing how to compare wedding or elopement package options and timelines can be daunting, even if you already know what style speaks to you. Let’s be real. Finding an adventure wedding photographer or elopement photographer who can understand and showcase your vision and love story in a true-to-life way can be overwhelming, to say the least.

But here's the thing. As Colorado elopement photographers who specialize exclusively in small adventure weddings, we’re firm believers that your small wedding or elopement photography decision ultimately comes down to two key things: the way a wedding or elopement photographer's images make you feel and the experience they give you. And that’s exactly what we always promise to deliver on. Every adventure elopement. Every adventure wedding. Every time. We will be there cheering you on during the adventure elopement planning process.

We get invested in the little things, like helping you find the right hiking boots for your national park elopement ceremony or tracking down a hidden alpine lake for you to say your vows by. We’re hands-on adventure wedding photographers, because we truly believe there isn‘t any other way to be. It’s our highest priority that you have an elopement experience that feels like the two of you, and not like what the wedding industry tells you your wedding day should look like. Because, wedding rules are meant to be broken, am I right?!

You crave an adventure wedding day that is true to your specific story and not a manifestation of what everyone else tells you your day should look like. You are fully on board with the idea that a wedding day is the reflection of you and your partner’s distinct story and life experiences, and an adventure elopement feels like the type of wedding that can actually accomplish that for you two.

You’ve been told countless times from friends and family about how quickly the wedding day goes by and how it feels like a rushed blur. One moment you’re getting your hair and makeup done, and the next, you’re making your grand exit out of the venue. And you two barely had a moment to yourselves. You know you’d rather spend your time savoring every moment of your adventure elopement day, and spend less time chatting up your third cousin Jimmy whom you’ve met a grand total of 2 times in your entire life.

The idea of planning a large event gives you anxiety. You two hate the idea of 200 onlookers witnessing you sharing this extremely personal moment together. You don’t want to say your vows or share your first kiss with an audience. No thanks. You’d rather have a more intimate, private elopement ceremony where you can feel free to share openly without worrying about what anyone else overhears.

Whether you’re an avid hiker or a road trip fanatic always chasing the next best mountain overlook, you believe nature is the best altar. You don’t have to be the most crazy outdoors person to have an adventure elopement, let’s make that clear right off the bat. But if outdoor activities are the things you two do together on the weekends, whether it’s camping with your dogs or stringing up your hammock in the backyard, it’s only natural that you’d do the same on your elopement day.

So You’ve Made The Bold Decision To Have An Adventure Elopement. Now What?

As seasoned adventurers and elopement photographers, we know a thing or two about helping our couples navigate the sometimes choppy waters of figuring out how to plan their dream adventure elopement or small adventure wedding. We’re here to guide you through that process, whether it’s crafting your elopement day timeline or finding the perfect pair of thermal boots for your intimate Colorado mountaintop ceremony. This is our specialty.

Meet Me: Your Adventure Wedding Gal

Oh hey, Sheena here! I’m the lead adventure wedding photographer over here at Sheena Shahangian Photography. My husband Ed and I live in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado, nestled right in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

Personally, we’re big believers that Colorado may or may not be the most magical state in the US and by far one of the most epic places to have an adventure wedding or elopement.

I’m an adventure-chasing, mountain-obsessed dork who puts my whole heart and soul into helping couples have their dream adventure weddings, both in Colorado and beyond.

I understand how difficult it can be to find the right photographer for your Colorado elopement or small wedding, which is why I think it’s so important to let you in on who I am and why I do what I do.

I don’t want to scratch the surface with you, because honestly, if you’re spending your whole adventure wedding or elopement day with me, I think it’s only fair if you know me through and through. So I’m sharing all the details over on our “Meet Us” page.

Elopements + Adventure Weddings Gallery

When it comes to engagements, adventure elopements, and intimate/small weddings, nothing is more important to us than telling your story in an organic, true-to-self way.

As adventure wedding photographers, we're not fans of the overly-posed. When we photograph our couples, we encourage them to play, interact, and really sink into one another. This is one of the main reasons we’ve chosen to be Colorado elopement and adventure wedding photographers.

Our couples tend to love crazy landscapes — from mountains to deserts. Many of them get a kick from hiking miles to get to the perfect elopement spot in their favorite national park.

We’ve noticed that for many couples, the only way for them to truly feel like themselves on their wedding day is to have an adventure elopement or intimate, small wedding. For them, places like our national parks are more than just pretty views; they have a special meaning that goes beyond aesthetics.

Our couples love the idea of having their adventure weddings in the great outdoors because that’s the place that feels most like home. So if having fun and letting go is a priority on your wedding day, something tells me we’d be a great match.

Elopement + Small Wedding Resources

Interested in getting your hands on all the resources you need to prepare for your Colorado mountain elopement or small adventure wedding? Not sure how to plan the perfect outfit for your adventure session? Having been in your shoes recently, with my own adventure elopement, I know what you’re going through.

As Colorado wedding photographers, these are the questions we’re constantly getting asked by our couples. So we’ve made it as easy as possible for you to find the answers to them.

No, this is not one of those Colorado elopement photography blogs where all we do is share images of all of our sessions, although we do occasionally do that.

We much prefer spending our time sharing useful adventure wedding and engagement resources with you (because let’s be honest, that’s the stuff that’s actually helpful to you).

Nobody said adventure elopement and small wedding planning was easy. As seasoned Colorado wedding photographers, we're here to help smooth out the planning process and share some of our top tips and secrets. We’ll meet you inside the blog!

Our Colorado Elopement + SMALL Adventure Wedding Philosophy

We don’t want to be just any other Colorado elopement photographers. As adventure wedding photographers, your small wedding or elopement day is personal to us. We’re the Colorado adventure elopement and small wedding photographers who take the time to help you plan out the little things. There’s a good chance this is your first time planning an elopement or small adventure wedding. You’re not expected to know all of the tiny little details that go along with it, which is why we love being guides to our adventure elopement and small wedding couples.

For so many couples who’ve chosen the less traditional route of having an elopement or small wedding — whether that’s in Colorado or elsewhere — there seems to be a complete lack of resources to help you sort through everything. We’re here to help you bridge that gap. We’re the ones texting you about your wedding dress or tux. We’re just as excited about your adventure elopement Pinterest board as you are (heck, we’re even collaborators on some of our couples’ boards). And don’t even get us started on the best national park trails in Colorado and beyond to hike for your sunrise engagement session or elopement ceremony. That’s the stuff we live for. We’ve got you covered.

A Love Letter For The Couple Who Dreams Of An Adventure Elopement

Always Remember Your Elopement Day Can Look However You’d Like It To Look

There’s something to be said for the couple who feels like today’s wedding industry doesn’t get them. For the couple who wants to have a truly customized elopement day that feels like “them,” but for some reason the rest of the world seems to have an opinion on how they should be doing things. There’s something to be said for the couple who craves intimacy over extravagant fluff on their adventure wedding day; who gets excited at the prospect of making their wedding day an exclusive, private, and adventurous event.

These people? Some of them want to get up before the sun rises and hike to their adventure elopement spot, headlamps and lanterns in tow. Some of them think the perfect small, intimate wedding day starts with taking a soak in a remote hot spring in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. And some of them just want to have a small backyard ceremony with a home cooked meal and good wine afterwards. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

These couples are not afraid to wander and to take the path less traveled, especially when that path is a dirt road in the Rockies with mountains popping up in every direction. They appreciate that their wedding day should be uniquely theirs and never dictated by what others expect of them. They don’t let wedding and adventure elopement trends define them. In fact, they’re usually the ones setting the trends. And if that’s you, we want you to know that there’s no shame in wanting to break tradition and do your own thing on your adventure wedding or elopement day. Be bold and proud of what feels right to your soul.

The wedding industry will try its best to put you in a box, and if that box is not your cup of tea, step outside of it and never look back. This day is about you. And when you reflect on this moment, you’ll realize that it was never about having the perfectly planned adventure elopement or small wedding day. It was really about having an adventure wedding day that perfectly represents your relationship. If this sounds like you, we would love nothing more than to be by your side during the adventure elopement process: to talk you through finding the perfect elopement location, figuring out which hiking boots are best to wear the day-of, and so much more.

Step 4
